The
Story:
The New Zealand project is just one of
many communities we have worked with in other countries. Australia,
Canada, and Israel have also built projects.
The project in Masterton involved more than 2,300 volunteers and included
people of all ages and from all facets of the community. It
contains enough lumber to build 5 large houses and is valued at
$850,000.
Building in another country presents
many obstacles, such as different types of lumber and fasteners
and varying standards and guidelines. But the obstacles were all
surmountable, and the people of Wairarapa built many new
friendships and a stronger community in the process of building a
playground.
For
the grand opening of the playground, a pied piper led the children
to their playgroundthe playground they helped design and build.
