The Story:
The Pride League of Port Neches, a local
civic organization, spearheaded this project. Tugboat Alley is
based on local history and industry. Tugboat Island was the Civil
War site of Fort Grisby, which guarded the Neches River for nine
months during the war. Port Neches is also home to one of the
largest synthetic rubber plants in the world.
Components include a giant tugboat, and the super structure is a
castle. This project was the seed for three more large projects in
the area over the next few years. The Tugboat Island project was
awarded the American Wood Preservers Institute Playground of the
Century award. |
