Missoula, MT

The Story:

Dragon Hollow is the third community-built project in Missoula in the past few years. (The first two were another Leathers playground and a carousel with hand-carved horses.) More than 4,300 people volunteered during the build, including many of the artists and carvers who had worked on the carousel.

Dragon Hollow follows a three-headed dragon theme and is a highly detailed tall structure that has an elaborate maze of pathways as well as four events—three slides and a high bouncy net that represents the stomach of the dragon. The Tot Lot includes many animal components, such as a mountain stream and fish, a bear’s den, and a lion’s den, which were detailed by local artists.
