Wood The lumber, used for joists, columns, and beams, is pressure-treated to inhibit deterioration and sealed with a nontoxic sealer to slow natural checking and cracking. The wood is Dense Select Structural (DSS) Southern Yellow Pine, kiln-dried after treatment. This is the best grade of lumber available, which helps ensure low maintenance and reliability. The characteristics of the wood also allow the treatment chemicals to better fixate to the wood. Kiln-dried after treatment stabilizes the wood, reduces the amount of excess chemical on the surface of the wood, and allows it to be sealed or painted immediately. Wood Treatment Processes We offer two arsenic-free choices for preserving the wood on our projects: ACQ Preserve: ACQ Preserve and Preserve Plus have been in use for more than a decade in a wide variety of settings and applications. Wolmanized Natural Select: Natural Select, known as CBA, has been used commercially in Europe since 1992 and is now used for treated wood in 15 countries. |
